Photo Shoot Locations in Juneau
Keep in mind, photos in these locations often change with the light, time of year, time of day, and weather. I’d suggest talking to me or your photographer about the colors in these locations and how your outfits might work with them! Also check out my “What to Wear” guide!
AUKE REC
Always a great spot, especially at Sunset
Wheelchair accessible,
Places to wait out of the rain
Great light on cloudy days
auke rec #2
Walk out to the point at Auke Rec at sunset and you’ll get some gorgeous light!
A short walk, but great you can park in the campground and walk through the woods.
Versatile location with options for beach, ocean, and woods.
Close to venues out the road or in the valley.
Brotherhood bridge pull off
Great in July and August
In July you get the cotton
End of July/August you get the fireweed blooming
Views of the glacier and the Mendenhall Towers
I’d suggest combining this spot with a trip out to the Auke Bay harbor for dock photos or go across the road to the golf course!
brotherhood bridge #2
One of Juneau’s most popular spots is right off the parking lot overlooking the fireweed and Mendenhall Glacier.
Close to the road, easy for those who can’t walk far.
Depending on the time of year you might not get fireweed (July/August is prime).
If it is a cloudy day, you won’t get the same views.
Many tourists might be around while photos are being taken.
Top of Glacier gardens
A 10 minute golf cart ride will get you to the top of glacier gardens for these views
You’ll have to pay for the ride up there, and the railing can be a bit of a bummer.
Great for photos out of the way, and during sunset.
Another Glacier Gardens option!
Thane Ore house
What used to be the Thane Ore House in Juneau, might be one of my favorite locations.
When the sun is going down this spot gets great light.
You have a variety of areas to use here, just a quick walk through the woods is a sandy beach, and up the street are waterfalls along the road.
You could mix this location with an urban style shoot in downtown Juneau as it is just a couple miles away.
boy scout beach
Although this is a trek to get out to, the back drop, real sand, and evening/morning light is a favorite!
Great for those warmer feeling photos.
Not as easily accessible, but great for couples photos!
You could mix this location with stops at Auke bay harbor, Eagle Beach, etc on the drive out. This particular photo we took a float plane to get here. You can also take a boat from Amalga to shorten the time of the hike!
Highway pull off(across from walmart)
This is a great place to stop for photos on your way to town or the valley. It’s also close to glacier gardens if you want a
Easily accessible for group photos, especially for those who cannot walk far.
Warmer tones, good for sunset or sunrise pics!
Close to glacier gardens for those using it as a venue and want another location
Can get muddy depending on what the weather is like, bring boots.
Yacht club
Great colors and views of downtown Juneau at Sunset!
Large lawn for group photos, close to a parking lot and venue.
Close to the harbor to capture boat photos on the docks.
Light can be harsh earlier in the day.
eaglecrest road
For fun mountain views on the way up to your venue or right after the ceremony!
Easy location to get to.
Views of Juneau’s valley and mountains.
Great place to stop on the way!
Douglas wetlands
Hands down one of my favorite locations. Short walk, mountain views, warm fields.
This spot can sometimes get muddy.
Minimal people around.
Short walk, ideal for couples.
Close to Eaglecrest!
Great for warm tones!
North douglas beach
For fun mountain views on the way up to your venue or right after the ceremony!
Another close location to Eaglecrest.
Views of Juneau’s valley, glaciers, mountains, and water.
Sometimes can be a steep path to get to. I’d suggest bringing an easier pair of shoes.
Mt roberts tram
The hills are alive with the sound of musicccc! One of my all time favorite locations.
Skip the hike in the summer and take the tram up.
Epic views even when it is foggy!
You will need to hike up past the cross. This adds about 10-20 minutes onto the trip each way. Shoots often end up to be 2 hours.
If you can find someone with season passes this makes it even cheaper!
Mt roberts tram#2
The hike up to the cross offers great views just off the trail, here is everything I said earlier:

Whale fountain
So here’s the thing, you can’t actually get in the whale fountain… I just like breaking rules for the sake of the photo.
Easy location to get to.
In town.
Offers views down the channel, of the bridge, and you can make it look like an infinity pool.
Great and easily accessible spot for group photos.
your home
Okay, so not this actual location (although Laura might rent it to you for an hour ;)) but think about using your own home or someone else’s home with good light!
Easy for intimate shoots.
Works for boudoir shoots as well.
You don’t have to go anywhere.
Best way to show a shoot that really encapsulates your personality!
sunshine cove cliffs
Such a gorgeous, versatile location.
Long drive (by Juneau standards).
Lots of options for backdrops: cliff, woods, beach, ocean, etc.
You can get some great sunset photos here. You can get warm photos but also moody!
Sandy beach
Multiple downtown Juneau views from this Douglas location
Close to boat harbor.
Great for pulling up in cars and getting family photos without anything blocking the view.
Lots of excited dogs that might jump on you. This could be a pro or con depending on who you are.
Can be VERY windy depending on the weather and time of year.
fish creek douglas
A fun location all times of the year. Pond freezes over in the winter for some fun photos!
Close to the road and other Douglas locations.
Offers a variety of looks: bridge, fields, trees.
Walk out past the bridge towards the ocean and you’ll get some great fireweed photos that aren’t the “typical” Juneau fireweed spots!
Juneau ice caves
Fun, adventure location that you can access all year round.
Skip the hike and kayak out in the summer. Hike out on the frozen lake in the winter.
You may be fighting lots of other visitors depending on the time of year.
Sometimes the blue can be VERY blue. We may need to work with outfit colors.
Shoot ends up being a bit on the longer end.
